LEARNING OUTCOMES
Publication, Type Design, Web Design, Digital Advertisment, Workshop

My BFA Thesis is a collection of nine projects, each responding to one of the learning outcomes listed in the Thesis syllabus. I used the course structure as a creative framework, treating these academic goals not as limitations, but as prompts. The project consists of nine responses:

1. To document my ideation process, I kept a diary of all events and interactions related to my thesis development.
2. To demonstrate my working methodology, I held a workshop where peers recreated my responses to the learning outcomes.
3. To display historical awareness, I recreated Josef Müller-Brockmann’s Grid Systems in Graphic Design, replacing its contents with archival images from 1961, the year it was published.
4. To use the language of communication design, I designed a multi-section book rearranging excerpts from assigned texts into instructional design prompts.
5. To demonstrate my presentation skills, I advertised my thesis on a digital billboard in Times Square.
6. To understand type as image, I translated a written text into a series of images.
7. To demonstrate typesetting knowledge, I deliberately typeset a text incorrectly.
8. To exhibit my grasp of typographic form, I created Laari, a typeface built entirely from cut-and-pasted fragments of Arial.
9. To critique the institutionalization of social justice, I built a website that breaks down and redefines every word of the CD Anti-Racism Policy.

The project was designed with a blunt default design style, reflective of the defaulting to course prescription. Each project was typeset in a single size of Arial and used only content sourced through course materials and school databases.
